Job purpose:
Janes is seeking a Russia Force Monitoring Analyst to join the OSINT Force Monitoring (OFM) team within Janes Current Military Intelligence. The OFM team uses open-source data to monitor the activities of the Russian armed forces globally. The Janes Military Intelligence (JMI) Team provides comprehensive and connected data and insight on the world's military forces.
How you will contribute at Janes:
- Support the Russia OSINT Force Monitoring team at Janes by tracking Russian armed forces military activity globally.
- Conduct current military intelligence investigations into Russian military activities, working to a strict battle rhythm and intelligence collection plan with tight deadlines.
- Curate and produce a regular flow of intelligence data points from open sources, including social media, satellite imagery, and local media outlets.
- Analyse subject patterns of behaviour across time in order to develop military intelligence.
- Produce regular current military intelligence products, including regular reports, as part of the Russia OSINT Force Monitoring team.
- Support Russia OSINT Force Monitoring team responses to client Requests for Further Information (RFIs).
- Work across teams at Janes to support the development of current military intelligence products, including identification of assets, assessment of capabilities, and battle damage assessments (BDAs).
- Support to media requests and queries in line with the objectives of the OSINT Force Monitoring team and Janes Current Military Intelligence.
- Work with internal Janes Research, Data and Analysis colleagues to ensure data is complete and structured properly for various content types.
Requirements:
Essential skills:
- Interest in, or knowledge of, military affairs.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Bachelor's degree or higher: International Relations, History, Modern Foreign Languages or another related field a distinct advantage. Veterans and professionals without a degree-level qualification but possessing relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience working in an intelligence, investigations, and/or international relations environment.
- Understanding of open-source social media intelligence (SOCMINT) collection techniques.
- Knowledge of Russian and Ukrainian social media spaces.
- Experience working with satellite imagery of various types.
- Competence in geolocation, chronolocation, and verification of footage and images.
- Knowledge of military doctrine, particularly NATO or Russian doctrine.
- Knowledge of Russian operations and presence in Africa and the Middle East.
- Experience in multi-layered intelligence analysis.
- Experience working with open-source information (OSINF), particularly in capturing military activity.
- Strong knowledge of Russian and/or Ukrainian will be a distinct advantage; other foreign language skills also desirable and will be considered.
