Job Title: Collections Specialist
Location: West Hartford, CT
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (CTH)
Pay Range: $24 – $25/hour (negotiable depending on candidate’s expectations)
Start Date: ASAP
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Collections Specialist to join a collaborative and mission-driven healthcare team focused on women’s health. This role involves direct follow-up with both patients and insurance companies regarding outstanding claims, ranging from self-pay balances to denials. While primarily focused on collections, this position may occasionally involve light administrative tasks such as reception or scheduling. Rare travel to nearby sites may be requested, but this is infrequent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact patients and insurance companies to resolve outstanding balances
- Follow up on unpaid claims, denials, and appeals
- Assist with identifying billing discrepancies and working toward resolution
- Occasionally support administrative tasks such as scheduling or front desk reception
- Maintain detailed documentation of collection activity
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Perform other related duties as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Surgical Billing experience
- Strong understanding of EOBs (Explanation of Benefits)
- Hands-on experience with denials and appeals
- Ability to multitask and adapt to different roles when necessary
- High attention to detail and excellent communication skills
