We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Protection System Manager - C&I, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
The Design Manager role will join a team of senior technical leads and C&I Engineers. The role will augment the current technical leadership with people leadership, supply chain management and project management skills. The role will cover the delivery lifecycle of the Protection System(s) spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the supply chain applying a structured approach to design governance. The role will manage and develop a team which collectively with you will ensure that RR SMR meets its responsibility as an intelligent customer.
Key Results & What can be achieved in the role Within the first 6 months you will develop a robust delivery plan for the system of interest, including the identification of input dependencies, identification of team activities, and the agreement of supply chain detailed design process and plans. Working with the team, including the Technical leads, you will develop the system requirements specification and necessary design plans, safety plans, audit plans and assessment plans.
Over the next 3 years you will develop the existing team capability, developing and recruiting, in order to meet the plans, creating a collaborative high performing culture.
Deliver the system specification, System design, and all documentation as per the plan with the team resources and that of the supply chain.

Key Selection Criteria Nuclear Power Plant Experience or equivalent experience
- Demonstrate Sufficient knowledge of Nuclear plant design and operation or equivalent experience of other industry sectors where reliability and safety is critical
Nuclear Protection System Design experience or similar experience of High integrity C&I systems
- Demonstratable knowledge of programmable reactor protection systems or similar high integrity C&I Systems. Demonstratable knowledge of the C&I design lifecycle from requirements to commissioning.
Collaborate to succeed
- Experience of working closely with suppliers, senior technical leads, and Senior Management to create a collaborative high performing environment.
Regulatory Experience
- Experience of the UK civil nuclear regulatory regime or similar regulated environment.
- Understanding of Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs).
- Appreciation of application of standards such as IEC 61511, IEC61508 and IEC61513.
Project management
- A demonstrable ability to manage complex design and manufacture programmes with experience of risk management, and ability trade and react to change.
Training & Qualification Requirements- Degree in engineering or scientific discipline or equivalent experience

Pay and benefits We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600 DOE plus:-
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
- Benefits Allowance - £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
