POSITION SUMMARY
ABOUT YWCA-SGV
Founded in 1935, the YWCA of San Gabriel Valley (YWCA-SGV) has been a long-standing community partner. We work at the individual and community levels to achieve our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and an affiliate of the YWCA USA and a member of the World YWCA movement. The YWCA-SGV is committed to providing women, girls, seniors, and their families with the information they need to manage the critical issues in their lives. We achieve this through our multicultural and multilinguall community education and service programs in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys.
About SGV AAIMM CAT
Los Angeles County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Prevention Initiative is a coalition of the Department of Public Health in partnership with First 5 LA and the LA County Department of Health Services, Department of Mental Health, community organizations, mental and health care providers, funders, and community members. We are united in one purpose: to address the unacceptably high rates of Black infant and maternal deaths countywide and ensure healthy and joyous births for Black families in LA County. The purpose of the San Gabriel Valley AAIMM Community Action Team (CAT) is to create a public/private partnership with a community focus to address AAIMM throughout the SGV region and identify gaps in services and resources to support the reduction of Black infant and maternal mortality rates. AAIMM Community Action Teams (CAT) are regionally based collaborative partnerships between the Los Angeles County Health Agency, community-based organizations, health care providers, community residents, faith-based organizations, birth workers (doulas, midwives, etc.), allies and community businesses that consult, inform, and engage the community on all AAIMM strategies and create locally-based actions.
YWCA of San Gabriel Valley is the backbone of the SGV AAIMM Prevention Initiative. In this capacity, the organization is responsible for administrative, operational, and logistical support to the SGV AAIMM CAT and work in concert with the CAT members to implement their developed goals and objectives. YWCA-SGV does not oversee the CAT, but rather, works as a collaborator to advance its strategic initiatives. The Equity & Social Change Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Social Change & Innovation and is responsible for providing and coordinating all backbone services as presented in the grant. This position will dedicate 85% or more of their time to the SGV AAIMM Prevention Initiative, while 5%-15% of their time may be dedicated to working, as needed, on other YWCA-SGV equity-focused assignments
