Job Description

- The position of Forensic Certifying Scientist I, Positive is within our Toxicology Division located at Richmond, VA at Alere Toxicology Services.
- In this role, the individual will be responsible for final review of confirmatory results obtained by chromatographic methods.
- The individual filling this position will be responsible for analysis, review and interpretation of the analytical data in accordance with standard operating procedures and all applicable accrediting bodies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Final review of initial screening data including instrument calibration, control performance, chain of custody, custody and control forms, and donor data
- Final review of LC-MS/MS, GC/MS and GC-FID headspace analytical data including, but not limited to, calibration, controls, chain of custody, and donor data
- Operation of Sciex LC/MS/MS and Agilent GC/MS instruments
- Use of Sciex Analyst and Multi Quant software
- Use of Agilent Chem Station software
- Operation of Olympus screening instruments
- Knowledge of drug metabolism and immunoassay
- Training of new personnel, as needed
- Legal testimony, a needed
- Provide assistance to Medical Review Officers (MRO) regarding donor result interpretation
- Adherence to all security and safety procedures and all established guidelines outlined in employee handbook
- Compliance with all established SOPs, regulatory guidelines and company policies BASIC
QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or other relevant field
- Previous experience in a high-complexity laboratory is preferred
- Previous advanced knowledge of mass spectrometry and immunoassay principles, theory and operation is preferred
COMPETENCIES:
- Advanced ability to understand analytical chemistry techniques and procedures
- Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation including mass spectrometry
- Advanced ability to understand and adhere to certification requirements for CAP-FUDT and other relevant regulatory bodies
- Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
- Advanced ability to communicate with clients and MROs on drug metabolism
- Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds
- Ability to have full body movement
- Excellent math and reasoning ability to develop and communicate laboratory procedures and reports
- Ability to cope with stress induced during legal proceedings
- Ability to read and comprehend applicable company Standard Operating Procedures and accreditation guidelines
- Ability to transcribe data in a legible handwriting
- Ability to communicate with other employees and supervisors
- Ability to provide input and recommendations on operations
- Climate-controlled office and testing laboratory environment
- Potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials Required Business Travel Requirements: Domestic travel may be required when subpoenaed to testify in legal proceedings. Travel to other domestic Alere offices may also be required.
