Data Lead

£500-£550 pd outside IR35

Initially for 3 months / Hybrid working

Leading South West based business is looking to recruit a Data Lead to help them shape the data strategy from the ground up.

Following a major digital transformation, leading Southwest based business is now in an exciting new phase – investing in data as a core strategic asset. Looking for an experienced Data Lead to help shape the data strategy from the ground up.

This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives on taking ownership, advising the business, and turning vision into reality. You’ll work across teams to understand the current landscape, engage with stakeholders, and design a future-ready data environment – including processes, people, and technology.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and document the current (“as-is”) data landscape, including systems, processes, and capabilities
Interview and engage with stakeholders across the business to gather requirements, pain points and opportunities
Define a clear “go-to” data strategy, aligned with business goals
Recommend appropriate data tooling, platforms, and architecture
Design the structure and operating model for a future data team, including roles, responsibilities, and capabilities
Act as a strategic advisor to leadership on data governance, quality, and long-term scalability
Support planning and prioritisation for future data initiatives and investment

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience in data leadership, strategy, or consultancy roles
Strong understanding of data architecture, governance, and tooling (e.g. data lakes, ETL tools, BI platforms)
Experience in transformational environments, ideally where data has been introduced or elevated post-digital change
Excellent stakeholder management skills – ability to translate complex data topics into business language
A strategic thinker with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to delivery
Strong understanding of how to build and scale data teams
