Embedded Systems Test HiL Engineers
Location: Shannon, Ireland (Onsite)
Duration: Initial 6 months (2 year project)
Role Summary
Our Charging Systems Group is seeking two Embedded Systems Test Engineers to support functional safety system testing for upcoming Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) programmes. The engineers will conduct system-level testing on Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms located onsite in Shannon, Ireland.
This work forms part of a wider cross-functional team responsible for validating functional safety features within the high-voltage power supply system, including On-Board Charging, DC-DC converters, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and Energy Management components.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive testing of safety-critical embedded systems on HIL setups
- Work onsite in Shannon 5 days a week within the customer’s workshop environment
- Attend all relevant team meetings and provide regular updates on testing progress
- Log and escalate impediments or test blockers in a timely manner
- Document all testing activities in accordance with defined standards and processes
- Review requirements and design documentation to define appropriate test strategies
- Develop, execute, and automate test cases aligned with functional safety requirements
- Report defects and anomalies using defined defect management processes
- Maintain and develop HIL test assets and simulation models for closed-loop testing
- Ensure testing follows ISO 26262 and other applicable safety standards
- Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support project closure and documentation handover at the end of the engagement
Required Skills & Experience
- Solid experience testing embedded systems in automotive or power electronics domains
- Understanding of functional safety systems, including ISO 26262
- Experience with On-Board Charging, DC-DC converters, Battery Management, and supervisory circuits
- Hands-on experience with National Instruments hardware and tools, including:
- PXI, DAQ cards, CAN, LIN, Ethernet interfaces
- NI TestStand, VeriStand, LabVIEW
- Ability to implement automated test cases with accurate timing sequences
- Experience building or using simulation models as part of closed-loop HIL testing
- Strong documentation, test reporting, and defect-logging skill
Desirable
- Familiarity with automotive development environments and testing frameworks
- Prior experience working as part of a cross-functional safety-focused engineering team
- Experience in system integration or diagnostics in high-voltage EV platforms
