Contract DevOps/Cloud Engineer

£425 per day Outside IR35 | 3 Month Contract | Hybrid (Leamington Spa/Remote)

A major UK retail and E-commerce business is undergoing a large-scale E-commerce re-platform, moving from Legacy systems to a modern Shopify-based architecture. As part of a £1m transformation programme, they are building a new integration platform that will connect Shopify with multiple internal and third-party systems.

To support this delivery, they are looking for an experienced Cloud/DevOps Engineer to join an existing contractor and help accelerate the build of the integration layer ahead of a key June delivery milestone.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused primarily on Back End development and integration, working within a modern cloud stack.

The Role
you'll work closely with the internal engineering team and external delivery partners to build the Middleware that powers the new E-commerce platform.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building Node.js-based integration services
  • Developing AWS Lambda adapters and serverless workflows
  • Integrating Shopify with Legacy and third-party systems
  • Designing scalable event-driven architecture
  • Processing large data feeds from S3 (CSV/JSON)
  • Working with EventBridge and DynamoDB to manage event flows and state
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments
  • Collaborating with engineers to ensure the platform remains scalable and composable
The role will be around 80% Back End engineering, with some involvement in infrastructure and platform tooling.

Key Skills

We re looking for engineers who are comfortable working across development and cloud infrastructure.

Essential
  • Strong Node.js/JavaScript Back End development
  • Experience building APIs or integration services
  • AWS (Lambda, Event-driven architectures)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows
  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs
Nice to have
  • DynamoDB or NoSQL databases
  • EventBridge
  • Containerised environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Ecommerce integrations (Shopify ideal but not essential)
The Environment

you'll be joining a 46-person technology team supporting two growing retail brands as they consolidate engineering capabilities and modernise their platforms.

The project offers a rare opportunity to contribute to a greenfield integration architecture, shaping how multiple E-commerce, warehouse and wholesale systems connect going forward.

Beyond technical capability, the team is looking for engineers who:

  • Can work independently and translate architecture into working solutions
  • Communicate well with both technical teams and stakeholders
  • Enjoy building systems that will scale and evolve over time
Contract Details
  • Rate: £425 per day
  • Contract: Initial 3 months
  • Location: Hybrid (Leamington Spa office once per week preferred)
