Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant for our client a government organisation in Portsmouth, England.

The successful post holder will work with the Finance Manager and Group Accountants to deliver a full range of high quality financial management and accountancy services to a range of clients.

This role is a temporary contract initially for 6 months with the possibility to extend. This role is hybrid working.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Work with the members, strategic directors, and officers of the organisation as well as to the organisation's auditors, Government departments and external stakeholders in order to support the strategic aims of the organisation and to assist in the management of the accountancy teams including other professionally qualified staff.
  • Provides financial advice to members and officers and ensures that completion of statutory financial statements, statutory returns and financial analysis.
  • Provide specialist knowledge and expertise in order to assist in the organisation's budget process, budget forecasting and monitoring processes.
  • Assist in the role of ensuring that the organisation's assets are managed in line with current legislation, the constitution and financial rules and other professional codes of practice.
  • Advise senior officers and attend management teams and working groups on finance related issues.
  • Preparing budgets and preparing monthly budget monitoring reports.
  • Preparation of monthly accounts, financial monitoring and final annual accounts.
  • Appraising and evaluating the financial implications of projects and proposals using accounting techniques.
  • Developing and maintaining complex financial models.

Personal Requirements:

  • CCAB qualified i.e. ICA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA and be able to demonstrate professional updating.
  • Knowledge of Local Government Finance.
  • Computer literate - have a high standard of spreadsheet skills and be proficient in the use of Word, Outlook and Excel etc plus the ability to use financial information systems such as Oracle & if possible large databases such as the Northgate Housing Systems.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of customer care, equalities & Health & Safety.
  • Flexibility - changing demands on Financial Services.

Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Hybrid Working / Mon-Fri

Pay: £250.00 - £300.00 per day

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
