Job Description:
The Surgical Coordinator will support a busy Spine Surgeon by managing surgical scheduling, coordinating patient care from intake through post-op, and facilitating communication with third-party entities such as lawyers and insurance providers. This role requires familiarity with orthopedic terminology, strong administrative skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule surgical procedures and coordinate related care including pre-op testing and post-op follow-ups
- Handle communication and documentation for workers' compensation and third-party cases (lawyers, policy, authorizations)
- Maintain and review accurate patient records and surgical data
- Utilize NextGen EMR system for data entry, reporting, and scheduling
- Manage medical billing and insurance claims; resolve any claim or collection issues
- Provide high-quality customer service to patients and families
- Prepare documentation and maintain calendar for depositions and physician schedule
- Stay current with healthcare procedures, regulations, and coding (ICD-10)
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional working environment
Qualifications:
- 1–2+ years of orthopedic surgical scheduling experience (spine surgery preferred)
- Experience with workers’ compensation and third-party coordination required
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to manage high volume (25+ cases per week) and multitask effectively
- Proficient in NextGen or similar EMR systems
- Comfortable with direct communication and constructive feedback
- Demonstrated reliability and professionalism
