Freelance Software Engineer - Jira

For one of our partners we are looking for a Jira Subject Matter Expert to support the configuration, integration, and continuous improvement of Jira Cloud environments. This role is essential in enabling seamless collaboration, automation, and operational efficiency across multiple business units.

You will work closely with developers, product owners, and stakeholders to design scalable solutions, build integrations, and maintain high standards of security, performance, and usability. Your expertise in Jira administration, automation, and system architecture will be key to driving innovation and reliability in our internal tooling ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

Configure and maintain Jira Cloud projects, workflows, boards, permissions, and user groups to support team productivity.
Design and implement custom workflows and permission schemes aligned with organizational needs.
Develop and maintain REST APIs, webhooks, and integrations between Jira and internal systems (e.g. CI/CD, CRM, reporting tools).
Build and optimize automation rules using Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, or similar tools to reduce manual work and improve efficiency.
Monitor Jira platform performance and integration health, proactively resolving issues and optimizing configurations.
Ensure compliance with security standards and maintain data integrity across Jira environments.
Create and maintain documentation for configurations, APIs, and automation workflows.
Provide training and support to teams and users to promote best practices.
Evaluate new Jira features and third-party apps to enhance platform capabilities.
Lead initiatives to improve workflows, automation, and system integrations in line with evolving business needs.

What we're looking for

Proven experience in Jira Cloud administration and configuration.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and system integrations.
Experience with automation tools such as Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, or similar.
Solid programming/scripting skills and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
Ability to monitor and troubleshoot performance and integration issues.
Knowledge of security, compliance, and data governance in enterprise environments.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Experience in software development practices and end-to-end system ownership.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Fluent in English.

Nice to have

Experience with architectural guidance and software systems design.
Familiarity with continuous delivery, experimentation frameworks, and incident management.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify patterns and drive improvements.
Experience in process improvement and quality assurance practices.
Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation if required.
