Overview- We are looking for an experienced IT Workstream Lead Project Manager to play a key role in a high-profile, cross-sector transformation programme that spans multiple UK utilities industries including telecoms, water, energy, rail, aviation, and highways.
- This programme will deliver a new Target Operating Model (TOM) underpinned by modern strategic IT platforms. Your core responsibility will be to lead a workstream of quick-win IT projects that generate early value and establish critical capabilities on the path to the long-term solution architecture.
Key Responsibilities- IT Workstream Leadership: Lead and coordinate the delivery of a portfolio of circa 30 quick-win IT projects across a complex multi-sector transformation environment.
- Planning: Pull together delivery plans utilising existing suppliers and internal teams across group and divisional IT teams.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with platform leads, divisional business leads, enterprise architects, and delivery partners to define priorities and secure buy-in from senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
- IT Solution Shaping: Oversee the definition and scoping of tactical/bridging IT solutions that meet both local business needs and enterprise-wide architectural standards.
- Business Case Development: Develop robust business cases for quick win initiatives, working with business and IT platform leads on benefit analysis, costs, timelines, high level solution design, risk assessment, and interdependencies. Support the business platform lead when presenting business cases to Investment Board.
- Reporting & Governance: Provide structured reporting to Exec stakeholders, programme leadership, divisional directors, and programme board.
- Change Enablement: Ensure that IT quick wins contribute to broader change adoption, business readiness, and capability development across sectors.
Required Experience & Skills- Proven success in leading IT workstreams or projects within complex transformation programmes across one or more regulated infrastructure sectors.
- Experience managing IT project delivery aligned to a strategic architecture or Target Operating Model (TOM).
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience at senior and executive levels, including regulators and cross-functional sponsors.
- Ability to deliver quick win initiatives that act as stepping stones to strategic platforms.
- Expertise in shaping and producing business cases with quantifiable benefits and solid delivery plans.
- Understanding of IT governance and compliance frameworks relevant to utilities.
- Comfortable working with both waterfall and agile methodologies across distributed teams and hybrid delivery models.
Desirable- Multi-sector experience across utilities, transport, or critical national infrastructure programmes.
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms common in the sector (e.g. Salesforce, Oracle Fusion, Microsoft Dynamics, IFS, Procore, Sitetracker).
- Experience working within private equity delivery environments.
- Awareness of data strategy, security, and interoperability challenges in regulated sectors.
