Purpose of the Role:
Dayton Vitality Hotel is hiring for a Chief Engineer to lead our regional engineering and maintenance efforts. This is a leadership-level role responsible for overseeing engineering operations at multiple properties, including hands-on involvement in large-scale building projects, troubleshooting, and guiding hotel opening efforts.
The Chief Engineer will play a strategic and tactical role, ensuring all properties operate smoothly and align with our brand standards and safety protocols. This individual will frequently travel between properties to launch new hotel openings, lead site-based engineering teams, and oversee complex project execution from planning through completion. This role also includes capital planning, vendor management, and guiding the long-term upkeep and improvement of physical assets across the region.
Responsibilities:
Engineering & Maintenance Leadership:
- Lead and mentor property-level engineers across multiple locations, ensuring consistency in standards, safety, and execution.
- Direct large building projects, manage contractors, and troubleshoot major infrastructure and system issues (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
- Serve as the primary engineering lead during hotel openings to establish technical readiness, train new teams, and implement operational systems.
- Oversee all preventative maintenance, equipment management, and emergency systems.
- Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain life safety systems (e.g., fire suppression, alarms) and train teams on response protocols.
- Administer service contracts and liaise with third-party vendors to support regional building needs.
- Develop and manage engineering SOPs and ensure compliance with all brand and regulatory requirements.
Administrative:
Project Management & Capital Planning:
- Supervise construction and renovation projects, ensuring timely completion within budgetary guidelines.
- Provide oversight on long-term asset protection, equipment replacement planning, and energy conservation initiatives.
- Work alongside Executive Engineering leadership to establish engineering strategy, lead capital projects, and troubleshoot complex site issues.
- Conduct regional site assessments and contribute to 10-year planning for capital improvements.
Financial & Administrative Oversight:
- Create, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, inventories, and vendor contracts.
- Analyze engineering performance metrics and propose operational efficiencies to improve profitability.
- Collaborate with hotel GMs and department heads to resolve building and guest-related concerns.
- Support cross-functional initiatives with HR, Operations, and Guest Experience teams.
People Management:
- Hire, train, and develop engineers and maintenance teams across assigned properties.
- Provide regular performance feedback and coaching, while ensuring compliance with company labor standards.
- Partner with HR on employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
- Conduct regular team meetings, briefings, and ensure all departments are aligned on operational goals.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive hotel engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a management role across multiple properties.
- Proven leadership in managing engineering teams and large-scale building projects.
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
- Experience in hotel pre-opening, construction management, and asset preservation.
- In-depth knowledge of local building codes, permits, and compliance standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to lead diverse teams and collaborate across departments.
- Certifications preferred: EPA Level 3, Fire Safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrician/carpentry journeyman status.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; technical or trade school coursework preferred.
- College degree (2 or 4-year) in a related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
- 7 years related management experience
- Active working knowledge of regulatory federal, state and local compliance
- Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the operation, installation and maintenance of hotel building systems with in-depth technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and control systems.
- Professional certification and license if required by law
