What you'll do:
As a Business Analyst at Aspen Insurance in London, you will be at the heart of transformative projects that shape the future of delegated underwriting and reinsurance claims operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve engaging with diverse stakeholders to understand their needs through workshops and interviews while documenting clear requirements that drive strategic outcomes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-both locally and globally-to map existing processes using best practice frameworks before optimising them for efficiency. By supporting the development of target operating models and robust data governance structures, you'll help ensure alignment with regulatory standards. You'll also play a vital role in managing requirements deliverables from inception through prioritisation to sign-off while overseeing improvements in critical operational processes such as TPA ingestion data flows. Throughout each project phase-from planning meetings to user acceptance testing-you'll act as a bridge between business users, change management teams, IT professionals, developers, testers, external partners, ensuring seamless communication and successful delivery of solutions that meet organisational goals.
- Engage with business stakeholders to elicit, analyse, document, and articulate both functional and non-functional requirements using industry best practices to ensure clarity of vision and scope.
- Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, gap analyses, and collaborative sessions to capture business needs and translate them into actionable plans that support strategic outcomes.
- Capture and document current ('as-is') and future ('to-be') business processes using Aspen Process Mapping and Notation Best Practice to ensure comprehensive understanding of impacted areas.
- Map and optimise end-to-end business processes to uncover requirements, identify opportunities for process improvement or standardisation, and align with operational and regulatory standards.
- Support the development and implementation of target operating models (TOMs), change roadmaps, data governance frameworks, reporting structures, and process engineering approaches such as SIPOC or Lean.
- Collaborate with distributed teams across different locations globally as well as third-party providers to define data standards, resolve audit actions associated with Lloyd's business plan for Delegated Underwriting, and recommend remediation activities.
- Accurately capture requirements deliverables including user stories with acceptance criteria; manage prioritisation techniques to ensure benefit-driven delivery; maintain version control for all documentation.
- Oversee improvements in TPA ingestion data processes; monitor near shore FNOL & claims processing; provide audit & compliance attestation for key claims controls; report on change impacts and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Serve as the conduit between internal/external customers, change management teams, IT stakeholders, developers, subject matter experts, project managers, enterprise architects, application development/test teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Actively participate in testing cycles including user acceptance testing (UAT), exploratory testing of solutions to uncover defects early; facilitate UAT scripts preparation; support change management activities throughout project lifecycles.
What you bring:
To excel as a Business Analyst at Aspen Insurance in London you will bring substantial experience applying advanced business analysis methodologies within the (re)insurance sector-ideally spanning more than eight years. Your background should include hands-on involvement in delegated underwriting projects where you've demonstrated deep understanding of delegated data standards alongside practical experience remediating complex data quality challenges. Familiarity with bordereaux ingestion tools like Watertrace or VIPR is highly valued along with exposure to claims transformation initiatives covering every aspect of claims lifecycle management. Professional accreditations such as BCS/ISEB or CII qualifications are desirable but not mandatory if you possess proven analytical prowess combined with consultative solution-proposing abilities when engaging senior stakeholders. Your skillset should encompass rapid learning agility across new domains plus proficiency creating compelling presentations tailored for executive audiences. Exceptional communication skills are essential-enabling you to build trusted relationships across varied stakeholder groups while facilitating productive workshops/interviews/gap analyses. You must be adept at managing competing priorities within dynamic environments whilst exercising sound judgement during sensitive situations-all underpinned by your commitment to collaborative teamwork.
- Demonstrated experience in business analysis principles including BPMN/UML/Lean Six Sigma methodologies applied within (re)insurance sector environments over at least eight years.
- Proven track record delivering successful outcomes throughout full project lifecycles involving delegated underwriting projects-understanding delegated data standards (risk/premium/claims) plus binder management system workflows.
- Expertise remediating data quality/reporting issues enabling frictionless data ingestion/processing for key business reporting points; hands-on experience with bordereaux/bordereaux ingestion tooling such as Watertrace or VIPR implementations.
- In-depth knowledge of claims transformation projects including claims lifecycle management/data capture/usage throughout claims management processes; familiarity with Subscribe advantageous.
- Professional accreditation in BCS/ISEB or equivalent in Business Analysis desirable; CII qualifications considered beneficial but not essential.
- Exceptional analytical thinking/problem-solving/documentation skills combined with ability to propose solutions consultatively when discussing options with senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing complex problems by decomposing requirements into manageable components while collaborating effectively with development teams/business SMEs on feasible technical solutions meeting business needs.
- Rapid absorption of new information/business domains coupled with excellent PowerPoint presentation skills suitable for executive-level audiences producing impactful option papers.
- Outstanding verbal/written communication abilities enabling professional interaction across diverse stakeholder groups-including executives/managers/third-party vendors/subject matter experts-with strong influencing/facilitation capabilities.
