Accounts Assistant
Location: Caerphilly Salary: £26,000 - £28,000Job Type: Full-time and Part time Available, Permanent, Hybrid
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a busy environment and enjoys supporting financial operations across the business. You will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting activities, and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
As Accounts Assistant, you will support the finance function with a broad range of duties, including:
- Assisting with the purchase ledger, including invoice and purchase order processing, payments, statement reconciliations and query resolution
- Supporting credit control activities, including debt chasing, credit management, payment allocation, account reconciliations and resolving queries
- Assisting with accounts preparation and financial reporting
- Supporting payroll preparation and reporting
- Maintaining Sage 50 Cloud Accounts, including supplier and customer record updates and day-to-day system housekeeping
- Monitoring and actioning incoming post and emails via dedicated finance inboxes
- Proactively resolving internal and external queries in a timely and professional manner
- Liaising with internal departments, suppliers and customers to build strong working relationships
- Providing cover within the finance team and supporting the wider business or auditors with ad-hoc requests as required
About You
The successful candidate will be organised, motivated and confident working with financial data in a fast-paced environment. You will ideally have:
- At least 1 year's relevant experience within an accounts or finance team
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and analytical approach
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Intermediate Excel skills
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience within the construction industry
- Working knowledge of CIS, Domestic Reverse Charge (DRC) VAT, CIS tax and IR35
- Experience using Sage 50 Cloud Accounts
