Duration: 6+ Month Contract
Role Summary
- The Application Architect will provide strategic and technical leadership in designing, integrating, and governing inpatient video visit and virtual care platforms within a healthcare ecosystem. This role is responsible for building scalable, secure, and interoperable telehealth solutions that align with enterprise architecture standards and enhance patient care delivery.
- The architect will define the future-state architecture for inpatient telehealth, ensuring seamless integration across EHR systems, identity platforms, clinical workflows, and infrastructure to deliver reliable and compliant virtual care experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Strategy and Roadmap
- Define and maintain target-state architecture for inpatient video visit platforms across hospitals and care units
- Develop long-term roadmaps aligned with enterprise digital health strategy
- Establish architecture standards, principles, and reference models for telehealth
Solution Design and Integration
- Design end-to-end solutions integrating video platforms with EHR, IAM, scheduling, patient portals, and clinical collaboration tools
- Define interoperability using HL7, FHIR APIs, and event-driven architectures
- Ensure seamless clinician workflows and patient experience across devices
Vendor Architecture Governance
- Evaluate vendor platforms for scalability, security, and interoperability
- Establish integration standards and architectural guidelines
- Support vendor selection, architecture reviews, and proof-of-concepts
Security, Privacy and Compliance
- Design solutions compliant with HIPAA, HITECH, and NIST frameworks
- Define secure data flows, encryption standards, and PHI protection
- Partner with cybersecurity teams on risk assessments and mitigation
Device and Edge Architecture
- Define standards for bedside devices, tablets, and audiovisual systems
- Ensure secure connectivity, device management, and network segmentation
- Support infection control, accessibility, and clinical usability requirements
Cloud and Infrastructure Alignment
- Guide deployments across on-prem and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Define high availability, disaster recovery, and resilience strategies
- Promote automation and infrastructure-as-code practices
Governance and Standards
- Lead architecture review boards for virtual care initiatives
- Ensure compliance with enterprise standards for APIs, identity, and data governance
- Maintain architecture documentation and diagrams
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with clinical teams, IT, nursing informatics, and digital product groups
- Translate clinical needs into scalable technical solutions
- Provide leadership during deployments and hospital rollouts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 7+ years of experience in IT, engineering, healthcare, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in healthcare IT
- 3+ years in application or solution architecture roles
- Active Epic certification (any module)
- Strong experience with SaaS platforms in regulated environments
- Deep knowledge of HL7, FHIR, APIs, and integration patterns
- Experience with identity management and enterprise architecture design
- Strong understanding of HIPAA and healthcare security standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inpatient telehealth or virtual care platforms
- Familiarity with Epic or Oracle Health (Cerner)
- Cloud architecture experience in healthcare environments
- Certifications such as TOGAF, AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with clinical devices and IoT ecosystems
