ASO / Rx Underwriter (Contract)
Location: Remote / Hybrid (U.S.-based)
Duration: 6-month contract
Schedule: Full-time (aligned to PST hours, some flexibility)
About the Opportunity
We're partnering with a large, established health plan organization supporting continued growth in their self-funded (ASO) employer business. Due to recent team changes and increased demand, they are seeking an experienced ASO/Rx Underwriter to provide immediate support across new business and renewals.
This is a great opportunity to work within a fast-paced underwriting environment, with a strong emphasis on pharmacy (Rx) pricing strategy and financial modeling.
What You'll Do
- Underwrite self-funded (ASO) employer groups, with a focus on pharmacy benefit (Rx) financials
- Analyze claims experience, utilization, demographics, and trend assumptions
- Develop and maintain pricing models (primarily in Excel)
- Build and evaluate Rx pricing components, including:
- Administrative fees
- Discounts
- Rebates
- PBM cost structures
- Support new business and renewal pricing, including rate exhibits and underwriting summaries
- Partner with Sales, Account Management, Actuarial, and Pharmacy teams on pricing strategy
- Contribute to RFP/RFI responses requiring underwriting input
- Document assumptions, pricing rationale, and recommendations in alignment with internal guidelines
- Assist with portfolio analysis, performance monitoring, and ad hoc financial requests
What We're Looking For
- 3-6+ years of underwriting experience within a health plan, TPA, or PBM environment
- Direct experience underwriting ASO / self-funded employer groups
- Strong understanding of pharmacy benefit pricing and PBM financial structures
- Advanced Excel skills (pricing models, pivot tables, scenario analysis)
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, or related field
Preferred Experience
- Experience working closely with Pharmacy or PBM teams
- Knowledge of Rx cost drivers, including specialty pharmacy and rebate structures
- Exposure to stop-loss considerations and collaboration with actuarial partners
- Experience supporting large or national employer accounts
- Familiarity with underwriting systems or pricing platforms within a health plan
