Azure Cloud Engineer | Contract | Outside IR35 | £550/day
Hybrid - Coventry or Huddersfield (2 days/week on-site) | 3 months + likely extension
A well-established UK building materials business is looking for an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team on an initial 3-month contract.
The organisation runs a fully cloud-native estate (no on-premise infrastructure) on Microsoft Azure, and has built up a meaty platform backlog the team needs help working through. This is a hands-on delivery role where you'll make a visible impact quickly - and bring depth the existing team can learn from.
What you'll be working on:
- New network build - vWAN and Hub-and-Spoke, alongside a wider network optimisation project.
- Azure DNS, IPAM and Private Endpoint configuration.
- Governance at scale - tagging standards, Azure Policy and a least-privilege permission model.
- Consolidation work - Application Gateway (centralised model) and App Service Plans (tiering model).
- FinOps - storage account usage, under-utilised resources and cost optimisation.
- DevOps & automation - IaC, repo/version control, Key Vault secrets/certs and automated checks such as secret rotation.
- Storage account controls - life cycle management, tiering and file shares.
What we're looking for: - Strong hands-on Azure infrastructure/cloud engineering experience.
- Solid Azure networking (vWAN, Hub-and-Spoke, ExpressRoute, DNS, IPAM, Private Endpoints, App Gateway).
- Governance, FinOps and least-privilege/RBAC know-how.
- IaC (Terraform/Bicep) and version control.
- Someone who can pick up a backlog, run with it autonomously and report progress clearly.
The details: - £550/day, Outside IR35.
- 3 months initially, with a strong chance of extension.
- Hybrid - 2 days/week on-site in Coventry or Huddersfield, the rest remote.
