About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the client, supporting the UK Government's agenda on sustainability, circular economy, and battery regulation reform.
The Transport, Electricals and Batteries team leads policy development across batteries, tyres, end-of-life vehicles (ELV), WEEE, and hazardous substances compliance, helping shape the future of sustainable production, reuse, recycling, and circular supply chains across the UK.
We are seeking a Batteries Regulation & Recycling Specialist with strong technical and practical expertise in battery systems, recycling, reuse, and circular economy policy to support delivery of high-profile regulatory reform programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop robust policy proposals to improve battery circularity across production, collection, reuse, and recycling systems
- Provide technical and strategic advice on battery regulation reform and sustainable supply chains
- Support delivery of the Circular Economy Growth Plan through evidence-based policy development
- Engage with stakeholders across industry, regulators, local authorities, and devolved governments
- Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, papers, and presentations for senior officials and ministers
- Contribute innovative thinking and challenge existing approaches to improve policy outcomes
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams across policy, technical, and operational functions
- Support capability-building across the Civil Service through mentoring and technical guidance
Essential Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following:
- EV batteries, lithium-ion batteries, or battery manufacturing
- Battery collection, reuse, remanufacturing, or recycling systems
- Circular economy and end-of-life battery supply chains
- Battery regulation, compliance, or producer responsibility schemes
- WEEE, ELV, hazardous waste, or RoHS-related policy
- Battery disassembly, diagnostics, or materials recovery systems
- Sustainable materials, critical raw materials, or recycling infrastructure
