Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are working with an excellent Winston-Salem based company that has an immediate need for a Cash Application Specialist. The Cash Application Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely application of customer payments, researching discrepancies, resolving short pays, and supporting the Accounts Receivable team in maintaining clean, current account balances. This role works closely with AR, Credit, Collections, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure proper cash posting, deduction validation, and issue resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately apply customer payments (ACH, wire, check, lockbox, credit card) to customer accounts and open invoices
- Research unapplied cash, misapplied payments, and payment discrepancies to ensure proper resolution
- Review customer payment remittances and supporting documentation to confirm correct allocation
- Analyze customer deductions, including shortages, pricing discrepancies, freight issues, and promotional claims
- Validate and approve deductions based on company policies; route invalid deductions for collection and dispute resolution
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Logistics to gather documentation supporting deduction research
- Maintain detailed notes, documentation, and audit trails for all cash posting adjustments and deduction decisions
- Monitor AR aging for accounts impacted by deductions or unapplied payments, ensuring timely resolution
- Support monthly closing activities, including reconciliations and reporting on cash postings, deductions, and outstanding items
- Assist with process improvements, standardization of workflows, and system enhancements related to cash application and deductions
- Provide excellent customer service to internal departments and external customers regarding cash and deduction inquiries
Qualifications
- Experience in Cash Application, Accounts Receivable, Deductions, or similar finance support role
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve payment discrepancies
- Proficiency with ERP systems and payment platforms; experience with deduction portals is a plus
- High attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills for resolving issues with customers and cross-functional partners
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
Pay Details: $22.00 to $25.00 per hour
