Consultant in Older People's Medicine

Closing date: 04 March 2026

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. Newcastle is proud to be a leading clinical and academic centre for ageing and geriatrics. We have a strong focus on innovation, research and driving quality of care for older people. As such, we are looking for a dynamic geriatrician who is passionate about innovation and will work well within a progressive team of 16 Geriatricians. While the Department of Older People's Medicine has a strong emphasis on managing frailty across our wards, clinics, day units and community services, we continue to develop our frailty-based strategy which includes a focus on "front door" frailty and admission avoidance. Within our areas of departmental sub speciality service delivery we are keen to recruit a candidate with a strong interest in caring for patients with Parkinson's disease and associated conditions. In addition to working in the front of house frailty service and specialist Parkinson's disease clinics, we would envisage that the post holder will play a key role in developing an in patient liaison service for older, frailer adults with a focus on those living with Parkinson's disease.

Main duties of the job

The delivery of clinical services within Older People's Medicine in patient wards, day unit, out patient, "front of house" frailty and Parkinson's disease services. Additional sessions to support a sub speciality interest, and teaching and research opportunities are likely to be available, appropriately job planned.
