Content Designer - Central Government (Contract)

Contract Length: Initial 3 months
Rate: £375-£400 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Remote

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Content Designer to support a major UK Central Government department on an initial 3-month contract. This role is well suited to someone with prior government experience who is confident delivering high-quality content in line with GDS standards.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to design clear, accessible, and user-centred content that supports critical public services.

The Role

As a Content Designer, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering content that meets user needs, policy requirements, and government best practice. You will play a hands-on role in improving service journeys and ensuring content is evidence-based, accessible, and effective.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, writing, and iterating content for digital public services
• Applying content design principles across complex, multi-channel services
• Producing clear, concise, and accessible content in line with the GOV.UK style guide
• Working closely with product managers, user researchers, service designers, and developers
• Using user research, analytics, and evidence to inform content decisions
• Ensuring content meets GDS standards, accessibility requirements, and wider government best practice

About You

Essential experience:

• Proven experience working as a Content Designer within UK Central Government
• Strong working knowledge of GDS, including hands-on use of the GOV.UK Design System and style guide
• Experience operating in agile, multi-disciplinary teams
• Ability to clearly communicate content decisions and rationale to a wide range of stakeholders
