Role Overview
In this role, you will lead the engineering direction for a Google Cloud-based Data Centre Extension (DCX) platform, supporting secure and scalable IaaS capabilities across compute, networking, automation, and observability. You will guide a team of engineers while contributing directly to cloud engineering, automation, and platform improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build, and operation of Google Cloud infrastructure and IaaS platform services.
• Manage and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers while driving engineering standards and best practices.
• Define platform strategy, roadmap, and engineering priorities across GCP infrastructure services.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD automation pipelines.
• Support secure-by-design cloud infrastructure including networking, monitoring, logging, and key management.
• Drive automation, observability, reliability, and platform optimisation initiatives.
• Collaborate with architecture, platform, and feature teams to evolve cloud capabilities and reusable patterns.
• Support operational governance including SLO/SLI management, resilience, and compliance.

Skills & Experience

• Strong experience across Google Cloud Platform infrastructure engineering and platform operations.
• Hands-on expertise with GCP Compute Engine, networking, storage, monitoring, and logging services.
• Strong experience with Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Enterprise, and CI/CD tooling.
• Experience supporting RHEL and Windows virtual machine environments in cloud infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, automation, observability, and operational reliability.
• Scripting capability using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience operating at a senior engineering or technical leadership level, balancing strategy with hands-on delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership capability.

Contract Details

• Location: 2 days p/w in any of: Bristol, Leeds, Halifax, Manchester or Edinburgh
• Duration: Initial 12 month contract
• Day Rate: £500 - £530 inside IR35
