Data Tester - 6 months - Reading - £425/day - Inside IR35

We are seeking a skilled Data Tester/QA Engineer to join a global technology services organisation on a 6-month hybrid contract based in Reading (2-3 days per week on-site). The successful candidate will have hands-on experience in data validation, ETL testing, and cloud-based data platforms, with the ability to validate and ensure the quality of large-scale data processing solutions across complex, multi-environment landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and execute test cases for data pipelines and ETL processes
• Validate data quality, integrity, transformation, and migration across systems
• Perform testing of Spark and Databricks-based data solutions
• Develop and execute SQL and PySpark scripts for data validation
• Collaborate with data engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure quality delivery
• Identify, document, and track defects through to resolution
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
• Contribute to test automation initiatives and continuous improvement of testing processes

What You Will Ideally Bring:

• Hands-on experience with PySpark and Spark SQL (essential)
• Strong SQL skills and solid understanding of data validation and testing methodologies (essential)
• Experience working on cloud platforms - Azure preferred, with AWS or GCP also considered (essential)
• Experience with Databricks or other Spark-based platforms
• Knowledge of Data Warehouse concepts and ETL testing methodologies
• Experience with test automation frameworks and Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in Data Testing, ETL Testing, or Big Data Testing preferred
• Desirable: experience with CI/CD pipelines, data quality monitoring tools, containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and exposure to DevOps practices and cloud-native architectures

• Location: Reading (Hybrid - 2-3 days on-site)
