Position summary Reed Smith Legal Solutions (RSLS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Digital Forensics Intern to support our forensic technology and investigations team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to electronic evidence handling, forensic data collection, and digital investigations within a fast-paced legal and consulting environment. The ideal candidate is technically curious, eager to learn emerging forensic technologies, and interested in supporting complex litigation, investigations, and eDiscovery matters. Interns will work closely with forensic examiners, technicians, and legal technology professionals while gaining practical experience with industry-leading forensic tools and methodologies. This assignment is expected to last 3 months. What You'll Gain Hands-on experience supporting real-world forensic and legal technology matters Exposure to industry-standard digital forensic tools and workflows Mentorship from experienced forensic professionals and legal technology specialists Insight into the intersection of technology, investigations, and legal services Professional development opportunities within a global law firm environment Job duties and responsibilities Assist forensic technicians and examiners with managing, organizing, and tracking electronic evidence Support the collection, preservation, and analysis of electronic data from laptops, desktops, servers, mobile devices, backup media, and cloud-based sources Learn and utilize industry-leading forensic software and investigative tools Assist with recovering deleted files, hidden data, temporary files, and fragmented user data Perform email and electronic file conversions, data culling, and keyword searching activities (during preservation phase) Help prepare customized reports detailing forensic findings, observations, and investigative results Maintain chain-of-custody documentation and evidence handling procedures Collaborate with cross-functional teams in support of litigation, compliance, and investigative matters Contribute to special projects and operational initiatives within the Digital Forensics team Job duties and responsibilities included are not exhaustive and may be supplemented asnecessary. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, marketing, finance, communications, etc.). Experience: Interest in digital forensics, cyber investigations, or incident response Exposure to forensic or cybersecurity tools through coursework, labs, or personal projects Basic understanding of file systems, operating systems, and data storage concepts Skills: Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills Motivated and eager to grow in a fast-paced, professional environment Familiarity with standard computer operating systems, networks, and hardware concepts Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Excellent organizational and multitasking skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to produce detail-oriented, high-quality work product Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Access Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism Additional information Supervisory responsibilities: None Equipment used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, copier, scanner, etc. Essential job functions Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks requiring prolonged and/or extensive computer use. Ability to use computers, telecommunications, and digital collaboration tools to perform core job responsibilities. Ability to communicate effectively. Working conditions You will be required to work in the office at minimum 4 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor. Pay ranges This is a non-exempt position. The hourly wage for this role is $30.00 per hour.
