Electrical Utilities Technician

Location: Grangecastle, Dublin

Duration: Permanent, 39 Hours per week

Role Overview

The utilities maintenance technician is responsible for executing the preventive and corrective maintenance program as per the Client/PPU requirements, working as part of the Veolia Maintenance and Calibration team on a major biopharmaceutical site.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out work as per the schedule supplied by the Maintenance Coordinator and Planner.
  • Troubleshoot utilities equipment problems as directed by site supervisors.
  • Complete site documentation before and after work tasks.
  • Work across all buildings and collaborate with the DES team.
  • Operate within scheduled maintenance shutdowns and comply with GMP rules and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with the shift/day maintenance team and contractors during planned service maintenance.
  • Participate in training, risk assessment, and periodic reviews of EWI/SOP.
  • Ensure all work complies with site EHS and Veolia EHS rules.
  • Complete ITP and follow up on audit actions in mechanical rooms.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
  • Build maintenance plans, BOMs, SOPs for new equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the electrical PM job plan.
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of the electrical PM program.
  • Establish metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support the site contract maintenance team to minimize downtime.
  • Investigate utility plant equipment faults, including the Fire Alarm Detection system.
  • Introduce reliability centred maintenance on existing and future equipment.
  • Update utilities SOPs and coordinate third party contractors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with site project teams and manage spare part inventory.
  • Review maintenance programmes, effect changes to methods and procedures.
  • Implement energy saving schemes and coordinate with quality and auditing bodies.
  • Ensure engineering areas, facilities and equipment are kept clean, safe and serviceable.
  • Manage the utilities maintenance program to achieve optimum reliability and life cycle cost.
  • Drive local reviews of maintenance performance data using published KPIs.
  • Develop long term life cycle costing for asset replacement plans.
  • Maintain up to date CMMS information on equipment, spares and maintenance man hours.
  • Maximise maintenance wrench time utilisation through effective planning.
Qualifications
  • Electrical experience of at least 2 years with fundamentals of utilities systems.
  • Senior Trades, City & Guilds or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of pumps, HVAC systems, compressors, boilers, steam systems, chiller, cooling towers, clean steam boilers, purified water systems, CIP systems, low/medium voltage electrical systems, building management systems (SCADA).
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance systems and PLCs.
  • Experience working within a Computerised Maintenance Management Work Order system.
  • Experience with Facility Start Up and Permit to Work systems.
  • Computer literate and able to read electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of SOPs, GMP, engineering systems, and basic instrumentation.
  • Hands on troubleshooting and repair of low and medium voltage electrical systems, motors, VFDs, panels and electrical safety systems.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting for motor/VFD, panel and electrical safety issues.
  • Knowledge of single and three phase systems, mechanical systems.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
