Emergency Management Specialist

Boone County, located in Columbia, MO, has a great opportunity for an Emergency Management Specialist.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive communication strategies and public outreach initiatives for the Office of Emergency Management. This position serves as a point of contact for media relations, community engagement, and crisis communication, ensuring effective dissemination of critical information to the public. Work schedule is subject to a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.

Status: Full-time, non-exempt, benefited

Working hours: 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m., Monday Friday. Available to work a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, emergency management, public relations, or other related field and one year of experience in community engagement, community development, community partnerships, and/or emergency management; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.

Must possess a clear criminal history. Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license. Availability for after-hours staffing of special events, community outreach events, emergency operation center activations or other emergencies, as required. Available to work a 12-hour shift during a disaster or emergency operations center activation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in emergency management, public administration, or related field; FEMA Public Information Officer certifications; experience in government or non-profit communications; bilingual skills (Spanish preferred).

Note: A criminal background check including a national fingerprint check through law enforcement agencies and a drug test will be conducted on all successful applicants prior to their being appointed to this position.

Hourly Salary Range: $24.41 - $25.15 per hour
