We are supporting a specialist consultancy on a major defence programme and are looking to engage an experienced FPGA Architect with strong capability across VHDL and/or Verilog, Real Time signal processing and FPGA-based systems.

This role is likely to suit someone who can operate at both architectural and hands-on RTL design level, with relevant experience across areas such as software-defined radio, Embedded signal processing, communications, RF, radar, electronic warfare, aerospace, telecoms or adjacent defence technology environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead or support architectural design for FPGA-based Real Time signal processing systems
  • Develop, review and assure VHDL/Verilog designs across FPGA-based applications
  • Contribute to design approaches for software-defined radio and related signal processing use cases
  • Shape design options, implementation routes, technical trade-offs and delivery considerations
  • Produce or support architecture documentation, design rationale and technical artefacts
  • Help upskill internal staff on VHDL/Verilog, RTL design concepts and FPGA development practices

Key skills and experience

  • Must be able to demonstrate previous case studies creating VHDL and/or Verilog designs for Real Time signal processing applications
  • Strong hands-on FPGA design experience using VHDL and/or Verilog
  • Ability to operate at architectural level while remaining hands-on with RTL design
  • Experience with FPGA design flows, RTL development, timing, verification and implementation considerations
  • Background in software-defined radio, RF, comms, radar, EW, DSP or similar would be highly beneficial
  • Defence, national security, aerospace, telecommunications or mission-critical systems experience would be advantageous
