Gas Technician

Tasks Attend to gas escape calls Install gas heating units and their components Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment Service gas heating units and their components Install and maintain meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment Instruct apprentices Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices Estimate costs and materials Operate CADD and other computer software systems Test and replace defective equipment or components Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 2 or B Work conditions and physical capabilities Fast-paced environment Handling heavy loads Attention to detail Bending, crouching, kneeling Own tools/equipment Tools: Safety equipment/gear Steel-toed safety boots Hard hat Safety glasses/goggles Personal suitability: Accurate Client focus Dependability Excellent oral communication Excellent written communication Judgement Team player Positive attitude Benefits: Dental plan Vision care benefits Financial benefits Gasoline paid Other benefits Paid time off (volunteering or personal days) Parking available Education Secondary (high) school graduation certificate Experience 1 year to less than 2 years On the road: Work locations may vary.
