We specialize in the accurate appraisal and certification of diamonds, coloured gemstones, jewellery, precious metals, and watches. Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Gemologist to support daily laboratory operations. The role involves working with diamonds, gemstones, jewellery, and watches through examination, testing, and appraisal processes, as well as contributing to client service and documentation. Key Responsibilities - Examine and identify diamonds, gemstones, jewellery, and watches using standard gemological instruments - Perform routine gemological testing to determine basic characteristics, treatments, and authenticity of stones (natural, synthetic, or imitation) - Participate in the grading of diamonds and coloured gemstones, applying standard criteria such as colour, clarity, cut, and carat weight under supervision - Apply fundamental methods to observe and assess gemstone properties for identification and classification purposes - Research current market conditions and comparable items to support the appraisal of jewellery and watches - Perform diamond polishing and handling using optical instruments, lathes, and laps, following established laboratory procedures - Prepare and organize documentation and contribute to the development of appraisal reports - Examine jewellery, watches, and precious metals to identify general characteristics such as hallmarks, composition, and workmanship - Maintain accurate records of items processed and ensure proper documentation is completed - Handle, clean, and store gemstones, jewellery, and watches according to laboratory standards - Interact with clients by receiving items for appraisal, explaining general procedures, and addressing routine inquiries Qualifications - Completion of secondary school - At least one year of experience in a similar role and setting - Basic knowledge of gemological tools and testing methods - Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn - Ability to handle delicate and high-value items with care - Good communication skills in English and strong customer service orientation - Completion of a college or other program, or apprenticeship training in watch or jewellery repair or gemology would be considered an asset Work Environment - Combination of laboratory and client-facing work - Hands-on work with gemstones, jewellery, and watches using precision instruments - Small team environment How to Apply Please submit your resume and cover letter to:
