Applications are invited for the position of ICU Education Facilitator.
This role is on a permanent, part time basis working 24 hours per week.
The Role
- To work as part of the Practice Development and ICU management team to identify the clinical educational needs of staff.
- Keep up to date on relevant changes in clinical standards and develop training materials and/or learning opportunities for all Galway Clinic staff to develop skills.
- To coordinate mandatory and continuing education for all staff in the Intensive Care Department
- To teach and / or coordinate selected courses as applicable in conjunction with in house and external instructors.
- To manage the orientation program for all new staff to ICU and to expand as necessary.
- To participate in Practice Development programmes and support the development of PD facilitators within the workplace
- Support and advocate the use of evidence in practice
- Support and assist staff members who wish to develop service initiatives, service / nursing audits or service / nursing research.
- To act as a role model for use of evidence in practice and undertake and lead on service improvement projects/audit and research.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the delivery of ICU care.
- To maintain education audits and related records as required.
- Support preceptors who are in turn guiding nursing students
- Act as a link for Undergraduate and post graduate nursing programmes.
- Support the implementation and audit of nursing standards.
- To act as a resource for staff in relation to clinical educational issues.
- Any other duties as outlined by Director of Nursing's Office.

The Candidate Required
- Clinical background in ICU nursing
- Have an interest in learning and creating conditions where people can learn.
- 3 years minimum experience in ICU setting
- Have proven Clinical, Leadership skills
- Ability to work comfortably in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- Experience of undertaking audit /research and identifying areas where improved practice is needed.
- Post grad in ICU Nursing
