We are supporting a large City Council to appoint an Interim Risk Officer within their Finance & Resources directorate.
Your new role
This is a critical role supporting the Corporate Risk & Assurance function, helping to embed effective risk management across the organisation at both directorate and corporate level.

- Rate: Circa £300 per day (UMB), though this is flexible depending on experience and current market conditions
- Working pattern: Hybrid - 1-2 days per week on site
What you'll need to succeed Support delivery of an effective risk management service by engaging with officers across the Council.Assist the Corporate Risk & Assurance Manager in embedding risk management activities, with a focus on Directorate Risk Registers and contributions to the Corporate Risk Register.Support the delivery of the Council's risk management strategy, frameworks, processes and working practices in line with best practice.Provide risk management advice to officers and challenge appropriately to support informed decision-making.Facilitate discussions to identify and assess risks, using agreed risk management documentation and standards.Produce high-quality written reports following Directorate-level risk discussions.Support the delivery of risk management training alongside internal teams or external providers.Essential Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in a risk management role.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles (operational and strategic).
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Confident user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge senior officers constructively.
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment is highly desirable.
Qualifications
- A recognised risk management qualification (e.g. IRM, APM, or similar) is preferred but not essential.
