Position Overview
Midwest Express Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Lab Accessioner to support our growing in-house laboratory operations. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring specimens are received, processed, and entered accurately into our laboratory information system (LIS) and EMR.
This is a part-time morning position (20 hours per week) ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and values precision, accountability, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, verify, and accession incoming patient specimens
  • Confirm patient demographic and specimen information accuracy in EMR/LIS
  • Label, sort, and prepare specimens for internal processing or external reference labs
  • Identify and flag rejected or compromised specimens per lab protocol
  • Communicate specimen discrepancies to clinical teams promptly
  • Maintain accurate documentation and chain-of-custody procedures
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory regulatory standards
  • Maintain clean and organized accessioning workspace
  • Assist with specimen storage, tracking, and inventory management
  • Support quality control initiatives and reporting accuracy

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous healthcare, laboratory, medical assistant, or specimen handling experience preferred
  • Strong data entry and computer skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures precisely
  • Comfortable working independently during early morning hours
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with clinical staff
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
  • Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS)
  • Experience with Experity EMR
  • Understanding of specimen collection types (urine, blood, swabs)
  • Knowledge of laboratory rejection criteria
Work Environment
  • Clinical healthcare setting
  • Fast-paced environment during morning specimen intake
  • Requires standing, light lifting, and handling of biohazard materials
  • Appropriate PPE provided and required

EXPERIENCE: 1-2 YEARS

WORK HOUR AND SHIFTS:
Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM


This role has an expected range of $17-$20 per hour
