Applies an in depth understanding of design processes, tools, systems and techniques to an extensive range of design solutions associated with complex assemblies, components or systems. Is able to develop design solutions from the bottom up with limited information, applying the various design requirements to achieve appropriate design solutions.
As the designs progress through the manufacturing, test, delivery and support lifecycle, the role holder will manage the Engineering Change for their area of responsibility against a robust change management process.
The role holder will apply knowledge and experience of engineering design principles and practices to the design and detail of Radar mechanical components, sub-assemblies and assemblies.
Major Tasks and Activities
Create 2D and 3D solid modelled designs, for a wide range of products from small components to large complex sub-systems.
Create conceptual design schemes from engineering information.
Support first off build activities.
Liaise with sub-contract manufacturers and suppliers.
Create detailed manufacturing drawings of piece parts and assembly drawings.
Implement design changes
Provide input into engineering estimates
Work to company standards, processes and guidelines.
Provide post-delivery support and resolve obsolescence issues.
Proficient in the use of SAP PDM tool for maintaining and updating design data.
Currently working in a senior designer role with many years of experience.
Expert in the use of 2D and 3D CAD design/draughting tools, Siemens NX 10 and/or Siemens Teamcentre (Essential)
Experience of designing to meet Environmental requirements (EMC, Shock and Vibration)
Experience of design for manufacture and design for maintainability practices.
A good understanding of BS8888 Engineering Drawing standards (previously BS308).
An understanding of Electrical drawing practices, creation of Circuit Diagrams and Wiring Schedules under the guidance of Electrical Engineers.
Competent with Microsoft Office applications.
The role holder will have either technical responsibility for producing CAD Drawings within one large project, and/or undertake a number of task-based activities across various products and projects.
Responsible for timely delivery and quality of own work.
