Role Title: Project Manager
Duration: 3 months initially
Location: Barrow-In-Furness. Hybrid 1-2 days per week onsite
Rate: up to £524.40 p/d Umbrella inside IR35
Clearance required: You Must hold Active MOD SC and it must have been actively used within the last 12 months. You must have 3 months left on your SC clearance before expiry
Role purpose/summary
We are seeking an experienced Engagement manager to oversee a portfolio of projects focused on delivering long-term value and ensuring project effectiveness across cost, schedule, and quality. This role requires strong governance, strategic alignment, and leadership to ensure projects meet business objectives and deliver measurable benefits in line with the Balanced Scorecard.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of multiple projects, ensuring interdependencies, resourcing, and priorities are effectively handled.
Monitor project outputs to ensure strategic objectives are achieved.
Conduct portfolio meetings and attend project meetings as required.
Establish strong stakeholder relationships and maintain effective communication across the portfolio.
Governance & Reporting
Develop and implement governance frameworks, policies, and decision-making processes.
Ensure consistent project management practices aligned with organizational standards.
Deliver portfolio updates and reports to senior leadership and the Executive Board.
Planning & Resource Management
Collaborate with stakeholders to create and maintain a portfolio roadmap and phased budget.
Work with Resource Manager and Head of Delivery to optimize resource allocation.
Identify recruitment needs and ensure appropriately skilled resources are available.
Performance Monitoring & Risk Management
Track KPIs and Balanced Scorecard metrics, providing insights for decision-making.
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the portfolio.
Escalate critical risks and issues promptly.
Continuous Improvement & Strategic Alignment
Promote best practices and continuous improvement within the portfolio.
Ensure all projects align with business strategic objectives and contribute to organizational goals.
Stay updated on industry trends and implement new tools and methodologies.
Coaching & Mentoring
Provide guidance and support to portfolio team members.
Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and professional development.
Qualifications
Proven experience in portfolio and project management within complex environments.
Strong understanding of governance frameworks and performance monitoring.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with risk management and resource planning principles.

Proficiency in portfolio planning and reporting tools.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage budgets and financial performance within agreed variance thresholds.
