Company Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity available with one of our leading banking clients. They are currently looking for an experienced OpenSource Data Platform Solution Engineer to join their Cyber Sciences & Analytics team on an initial 6-month contract, supporting the design and evolution of large-scale cybersecurity data platforms.

Job Responsibilities/Objectives

As an OpenSource Data Platform Solution Engineer, you will play a key role in designing secure, scalable, and resilient data platform solutions that support enterprise cybersecurity capabilities. Working closely with architecture, engineering, and governance teams, you will shape technical solutions from concept through to production.

1. Design and maintain architecture artefacts including High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), reference architectures, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and reusable design patterns.
2. Lead end-to-end solution design for cybersecurity applications and large-scale open-source data platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and operationally supportable.
3. Evaluate open-source technologies, conduct proof of concepts (PoCs), and drive technology standardisation across a petabyte-scale analytics platform.
4. Collaborate with engineering, platform, and governance teams to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security controls, and regulatory requirements.
5. Provide hands-on technical guidance throughout implementation, contributing to design reviews, governance forums, and coding where required.
6. Champion secure-by-design principles, incorporating threat modelling, identity and access management, encryption, secure logging, and Secure SDLC best practices into solution designs.

Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:

1. Proven experience designing, deploying, and supporting large-scale data platforms and end-to-end technical solutions within enterprise environments.
2. Strong hands-on experience with open-source data technologies such as Apache Spark, Trino, Airflow, Apache Superset, or similar platforms.
3. Demonstrable security architecture expertise, including threat modelling, IAM (RBAC/ABAC), encryption, secrets management, secure logging, Secure SDLC, and vulnerability management.
4. Experience producing architecture documentation including HLDs, LLDs, reference architectures, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), with excellent stakeholder communication and workshop

Desirable Skills/Experience

Although not essential, the following skills are desired by the client:

1. Experience working with cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
2. Previous experience designing cybersecurity analytics or security engineering platforms within highly regulated environments.
3. Experience evaluating emerging open-source technologies, conducting technical PoCs, and defining reusable architecture patterns.
4. Hands-on software engineering or coding experience alongside solution architecture responsibilities.
