My client, a Higher Education organisation in Oxford are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their team. This role is available part-time for candidates with strong payroll expertise, or full-time for those who can also contribute to broader finance operations.The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience within a university or college environment, with a strong understanding of Mercury and the unique complexities of academic and casual worker payroll.
The Ideal Candidate

Higher-education payroll experience is essential due to the specialist nature of academic contracts and casual engagement structures.

Mercury system knowledge required to manage payroll cycles efficiently from day one.

Ability to navigate complex pay structures, including term-time arrangements, variable hours, and multiple appointment types.

Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and accuracy.

Confident managing academic payroll cycles

Comfortable working in a collegiate environment with varied stakeholders

Able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative finance team

Quick to learn internal processes and adapt to seasonal payroll demands
