PMO Lead
Location: London, Hybrid
Engagement: 12 months Contract - Inside IR35

Pay Rate: £420-480 Depending on experience
Security Clearance: UK National with DV mandatory (must already have it to transfer over)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced PMO Lead to design, establish, and lead a centralised Project Management Office (PMO) within Project Operations (ProjOPS). This role will play a critical part in strengthening delivery capability across a portfolio of complex internal and strategic change initiatives.
The PMO Lead will provide oversight, governance, reporting, and capability development, acting as a trusted advisor and coach to senior stakeholders and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and establishment of a central PMO, embedding it as a core function within Project Operations
Own the ongoing management and continuous improvement of the PMO to support delivery of large, complex projects
Lead capacity building to strengthen project management capability across the organisation
Develop and maintain the PMO operating model, standards, and toolkits
Establish and embed a consistent governance, oversight, and performance reporting approach across all project types (simple to complex)
Maintain oversight of live project delivery, providing regular performance and risk reporting to senior management
Support senior leaders with resource planning and deployment of project managers, working closely with stakeholders to understand demand
Embed robust project management principles into key operational processes (eg programme development and mobilisation)
Act as a PMO coach and advisor, supporting project managers and senior colleagues
Act as an agent for change, driving continuous improvement and supporting functional and cultural change in partnership with Organisational Change teams
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience setting up and leading a PMO within complex programme or operational environments
Strong background in PMO governance, reporting, risk/issue management, and assurance
Experience supporting senior management with performance insight, decision-making, and resourcing
Ability to operate credibly at senior levels, influencing without formal line management
Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
Comfortable working across ambiguity and driving standardisation and improvement
Desirable:
PRINCE2, MSP, PMP or equivalent project/programme management qualifications
