Rate: £600 per day (Inside IR35)

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to act as the technical lead within an agile delivery pod, driving the design and development of scalable, event-driven Back End solutions. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in CQRS architectures and distributed systems, ensuring robust, high-performing services within a complex enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Back End development activities within a cross-functional delivery team.
• Design and implement CQRS-based and event-driven architectures.
• Develop resilient, scalable APIs and Back End services.
• Build and maintain distributed systems with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Drive best practices across software engineering, architecture, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within the pod.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Active SC Clearance (Mandatory).
• Strong commercial experience with CQRS (non-negotiable).
• Experience implementing Event Sourcing patterns.
• Backend development expertise in .NET, Java, or Python.
• Strong knowledge of Azure Service Bus and messaging technologies.
• API design and development (RESTful and event-driven services).
• Proven experience building and operating distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures and microservices.

Desirable Skills

• Experience within government or highly regulated environments.
• Azure cloud platform expertise.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience leading engineering teams or acting as a technical lead.
