Position: Senior Data Architect
Location: Mostly Remote with occasional Travel to Herndon, VA or other states
Length: 6 -12 -month Contract to Hire
Target Pay Range: $110 - $115/ Hourly
Target Conversion Salary: $163,500 - $212,500 / Annually
Work Auth: (TN, EAD-GC, GC, or US Cit.) - Position is not eligible for sponsorship.

The Senior Architect, Cloud Data is a member of the Chief Data Office and plays a lead role in the overall design and implementation of the organization's Enterprise Data Ecosystem, a cloud-based architecture that provisions data to enable the delivery of enterprise services. The Senior Architect works at the direction of the Director of Enterprise Architecture to instantiate business logic in the Enterprise Data Model and to employ innovative, cloud-based concepts and technologies in the delivery of the Enterprise Data Ecosystem.
The Senior Architect will also oversee the enterprise data delivery lifecycle, designing and implementing solutions in accordance with company and departmental policies and procedures, with an eye toward future innovation in support of the organization's data science and research goals.
The Senior Architect works with Solution Architects, Data Engineers, Senior Management, and other internal and external partners to deliver well-architected data assets that enable product teams to provide industry-leading transaction-based and analytic data services. This position requires a successful background in enterprise database architecture, cloud-based data technologies, and the full lifecycle of data delivery.
Currently, this is a remote-first position. The role may require periodic on-site work at a company office depending on department or division requirements. Therefore, candidates must either reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to travel to the office location when required.

- Define, create, and enhance business-oriented data models focused on enterprise value and product-specific data needs, including conceptual, logical, and physical models.
- Design and implement requirements-driven cloud data solutions with a focus on data integrity, availability, timeliness, and traceability.
- Foster relationships with data consumers, data owners, and data stewards to understand current and future business data needs.
- Develop a deep understanding of functionality across lines of business to ensure data supports application features and capabilities.
- Play a lead role in enhancing enterprise-wide data architecture to meet current and future business needs.
- Establish and apply enterprise data management principles and standards.
- Consider performance, data quality, security, governance, risk mitigation, and scalability in architectural designs.
- Participate in the organization's move toward Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery of cloud applications.
- Create and maintain data architecture artifacts, including models, data mappings, and enterprise metadata.
- Lead the design and implementation of the Enterprise Data Ecosystem.
- Provide technical leadership on data projects, including coaching and mentoring staff and participating in hiring efforts.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, and Data Scientists to evolve target data architecture and integration strategies.
- Translate business concepts into technical requirements for data engineers and related roles.
- Participate in project and architecture design reviews and provide feedback.
- Research emerging cloud-based data technologies and architecture methodologies to increase value and efficiency.
- Produce clear and accurate architecture documentation and review data movement code for correctness and alignment with business requirements.

What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience, including military service).
- 10 years of hands-on experience in data architecture, database technologies, and applications.
- 1-3 years of experience with AWS-based cloud data platforms.
- 5 years of technical leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
Demonstrated Experience With:
- Enterprise data modeling and database design
- Data warehousing, master data management, metadata solutions
- Data lakes, data catalogs, and data governance
- Cloud-based data delivery technologies (AWS preferred: Redshift, RDS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DMS, S3, Glue, orchestration tools)
- Large-scale data integration
- Multi-tier, database-driven architectures
- Version control tools (SVN, Git, AWS CodeCommit)
- Data architecture strategy, planning, and execution
- Partnering with business stakeholders to translate requirements into enterprise data solutions
Proficiency In:
- Authoring conceptual, logical, and physical data models
- Establishing and leading data architecture governance
- Cloud computing technologies and modern computing trends
- Creative problem-solving and innovative solution design
- Communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership
Additional Requirements
- Must live within a commutable distance to the designated office location or within approved hiring states.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect, or AWS Big Data certification (preferred).
