Azure Synapse | Financial Services | Data Platform Ownership/6 months initially

Talent Today are partnering with a leading financial services organisation to recruit a Lead/Senior Data Engineer to help bring their data engineering capability in-house and take ownership of a critical Azure-based data platform.

Reporting to the Head of BI, this role combines hands-on platform engineering with technical leadership, helping modernise and scale the organisation's enterprise data platform while supporting future AI and advanced analytics initiatives.

This is a key strategic hire, with early onboarding important as the organisation transitions ownership of its data platform away from an external consultancy. There is also the opportunity for this position to transfer into a permanent position

The Role

You will take ownership of the organisation's Azure Synapse Analytics data platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure and well-governed.

Key responsibilities include:

Taking over and optimising the existing enterprise data platform
Reducing reliance on external consultancy and bringing capability in-house
Addressing platform technical debt and improving reliability
Designing and optimising ETL/ELT pipelines
Implementing monitoring, governance and support processes
Ensuring data quality, lineage and AI-ready data foundations
Supporting analytics across areas such as Debt Capital Markets and Loan Administration
Mentoring engineers and helping build a growing internal data team

Experience within financial services or regulated environments is highly desirable.
