Senior Geospatial Engineer | Outside IR35 | Remote

SR2 are looking for a Senior Geospatial Engineer to support the development of scalable spatial data solutions for a cloud-based, data-driven platform. You'll join a cross-functional team, taking ownership of the pipelines and services used to ingest, process, validate, store and publish complex geospatial datasets.

The Role
You'll design and build robust geospatial workflows capable of handling data at scale. The role combines geospatial engineering, software development and cloud delivery, with the opportunity to influence technical standards, architecture and engineering best practice.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Building pipelines for the ingestion, transformation, validation and publication of spatial data
• Developing scalable geospatial services and processing workflows
• Working with traditional and cloud-native spatial formats
• Consuming and publishing data through REST and OGC APIs
• Optimising spatial datasets and services for performance and scalability
• Supporting technical architecture, design standards and engineering decisions
• Implementing automated testing and contributing to CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborating with data engineers, software engineers, architects and product teams

Essential

• Strong commercial experience in geospatial or spatial data engineering
• Hands-on experience with GDAL, QGIS and other open-source geospatial technologies
• Strong knowledge of formats including GeoPackage, GeoTIFF and Cloud Optimised GeoTIFFs
• Experience with modern formats such as FlatGeobuf and PMTiles
• Good understanding of spatial reference systems, transformations and data validation
• Experience consuming and publishing spatial data through REST and OGC APIs
• Strong programming and SQL skills
• Experience building and supporting data pipelines within cloud environments
• Knowledge of automated testing, version control and CI/CD practices
• Ability to design reliable solutions for processing high-volume spatial datasets

Desirable

• Experience with OpenLayers or similar web-mapping technologies
• Knowledge of cloud-native geospatial architectures
• Experience defining technical standards and contributing to solution architecture
• Background working within multidisciplinary agile teams
• Experience delivering spatial platforms in a large-scale or regulated environment
