On behalf of the DSTL we are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. On site working based in Porton Down, Salisbury.

DSTL is the Ministry of Defence (MOD)'s science and technology organisation, providing unique expertise, crucial insights and delivering battle-winning solutions for the benefit of the nation and allies. DSTL is one of the principal government organisations dedicated to science and technology in the defence and security field. DSTL supplies specialist and sensitive services to MOD and wider government, working collaboratively with external partners in industry and academia and worldwide, providing expert research, specialist advice and invaluable operational support.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer you will provide advice and direction on digital infrastructure technical design, implementation, and support of infrastructure technologies.

This role will be supporting the running and development of one of Dstl's systems, for example you will be working with the current Senior Infrastructure Engineer to; carryout hardware capability refreshes, upgrades, and developments, manage user accounts, configure and install software, and support users and wider project tasking.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:

. Scope out potential solutions with users for digital infrastructure issues and assess the effort and cost involved with implementation.
. Produce documentation to be used in proposals, following standard project processes and procedures.
. Evaluate hardware and software (within server, network, storage or desktop environments) to ensure that the test and integration of new products (both hardware and software) for successful incorporation into program infrastructure.
. Provide administration, support, and enhancement of the digital environment, for example: User accounts, control the network access integrity, manage the data, in terms of space allocated to data, SAN optimization.
. Provide first to last line support to ensure the right support.
. Be aware of the relevant timescales and to respond, fix or escalate according to the limits set out within that structure.

Essential:

. An active DV Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
. A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows Workstation and Server deployment, system management, and desktop support.
. Experience in the management and deployment of Windows Domain Services, including Active Directory services and account management, Group Policy management, DHCP and DNS services.
. Microsoft Windows patch management using WSUS.
. Experience within a customer support environment and an appreciation of the impact of problems on the customer business.
. Documentation skills, with the ability to produce documents for use by colleagues.
. Self-paced, motivated, and capable of independent problem solving and fault finding.

Desirable:

. Technical Infrastructure skills in an enterprise environment.
. Linux server system management, ideally Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
. Network communications and routing (ideally Cisco), and VOIP/VTC solutions.
. Public Sector/Defence experience.
