Job Description:

• Senior User Researcher - Public Sector
• Remote Working with occasional travel to Newcastle
• £500 - Per a day Inside IR35
• 4 Months Initially

Help shape the future of digital public services. We are looking for a forward-thinking Senior User Researcher to drive the evolution of a digital programme.

As a Senior User Researcher, you will:

• Bring genuine experience in conducting user and field research to deeply understand user needs and real-world behaviors.
• Lead digital services through every stage of the Service Standardfrom Discovery and Alpha to Beta and Liveleveraging your background in the public sector.
• Apply an empathetic, design-led mindset to research, focusing on genuine human experiences rather than rigid business analysis requirements.
• Work closely alongside Product Managers, Content Designers, and Interaction Designers to co-design and refine services.
• Lead collaborative analysis and synthesis sessions to turn complex research data into clear, compelling findings that build consensus and challenge team assumptions.
• Ensure services work for everyone by actively recruiting and involving diverse, representative user groups in your research.

What You'll Bring as a Senior User Researcher:

• A track record as a public sector User Researcher with direct experience taking digital services through official GDS assessments across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live stages.
• Proven experience in genuine user, customer, or field research (including market or industry research background).
• An empathetic, design-led approach to understanding user needs, moving beyond rigid business analysis or requirements gathering.
• Proven success working embedded within cross-functional teams alongside Product Managers, Content Designers, and Interaction Designers.
• Ability to turn complex research into actionable insights, involving your team in analysis to challenge assumptions and build strong consensus.
• Deep understanding of the diverse audience for government services, with experience designing inclusive research that ensures accessibility for all.
