An opportunity is available for an experienced Software Engineer to support a high-profile national security programme, delivering solutions that have real-world impact across UK Government environments.

This is a long-term day-rate contract with a strong on-site requirement, predominantly based at a Cheltenham customer site, with some travel to Gloucester.

The Role

You will join a growing engineering team working on data-focused and cloud-enabled systems within a secure environment. The role involves designing, building, testing, and supporting software components that form part of well-engineered information and communications systems.

A strong background in database-centric development, particularly Oracle, alongside experience with Ansible, is key to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing, coding, testing, correcting, and documenting software components

  • Assisting in the implementation of software within engineered information and communications systems

  • Providing accurate estimates of development effort from given specifications

  • Working with Oracle databases and Ansible-driven infrastructure

  • Analysing code defects and delivering timely fixes

  • Supporting data processing-focused solutions

  • Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical oversight where appropriate

  • Contributing to Agile ways of working and knowledge sharing

Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong background as a DBA / database-focused engineer

  • Solid experience with Oracle

  • Experience with Ansible

  • Good understanding of back-end software development

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Desirable Experience
  • Exposure to cloud engineering (e.g. AWS)

  • Knowledge of Docker, microservices, or containerised architectures

Ideal Profile
  • Motivated by solving complex technical challenges

  • Keen to learn new skills and continuously improve

  • Comfortable working full-time on-site with customers

  • Holds active UKIC DV clearance
