Structured Cabling Technician

Commtec LLC specializes in the design and installation of commercial structured cabling systems, including internet, cable, telephone and other related equipment.

We are currently looking for several entry-level and experienced technicians to add to our growing staff. Whether you are new to the trade or a seasoned professional, we want to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to start or grow a career in telecommunications and construction. Technicians will gain or build upon hands-on experience with commercial construction and cabling installation on large scale projects.

Responsibilities:

Entry-Level:

• Assist with the installation of new IT-related hardware, and help troubleshoot systems for hardware problems at the customer's location.
• Assist with the installation of structured cable and fire stopping. Dress, test, and label cables to new and existing industry standards.
• Assist with the management and organization of network closets and cabling.
• Assist with the installation of network cabinets and hardware.
• Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies under supervision.
• Communicate with customers in a professional manner.
• Work overtime as necessary.
• Handle all customer and company property in an ethical and responsible manner.
• File daily reports with accuracy and in a timely manner.
• Travel to job sites.
• Maintain a professional appearance and represent the employer in a positive manner.

Experienced:

• Lead the installation of IT-related hardware and independently troubleshoot and resolve system hardware problems at the customer's location.
• Lead the installation of structured cable and fire stopping. Ensure cables are dressed, tested, and labeled to current industry standards.
• Manage and organize network closets and cabling with minimal supervision.
• Oversee the installation of network cabinets and hardware.
• Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies and ensure proper use by team members.
• Mentor and guide entry-level technicians on the job.
• Communicate with customers and project stakeholders in a professional manner.
• Work overtime as necessary.
• Handle all customer and company property in an ethical and responsible manner.
• File daily reports with accuracy and in a timely manner.
• Travel to job sites.
• Maintain a professional appearance and represent the employer in a positive manner.

Qualifications:

Entry-Level:

• Hard working, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Able to follow direction with strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working on a commercial construction site.
• Punctual and dependable.
• Knowledge of basic hand tools.
• No experience is required but construction or cabling experience is a plus.

Experienced:

• Minimum 2+ years of structured cabling or related telecommunications experience.
• Working knowledge of cabling standards and best practices (TIA-568, etc.).
• Ability to lead installations and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with network cabinet installation, cable management, and termination.
• Relevant certifications (BICSI, OSHA 10, or similar) are a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor junior technicians.

Requirements:

• Driver's license.
• Ability to lift 80 lbs, work in tight spaces and climb ladders.
• Able to travel to job sites for up to two weeks at a time.
• Comfortable with shared accommodations during travel assignments.
