MongoDB Technical Services Engineers use their exceptional problem solving and customer service skills, along with their deep technical experience, to advise customers and solve complex MongoDB problems. This role is based in Dublin and follows a hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
- You will work alongside our largest customers, resolving questions on architecture, performance, recovery, security, and everything in between.
- You will be an expert resource on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale, whatever that scale may be.
- You will advocate for customers' needs by working with product management and development teams on their behalf.
- You will contribute to internal projects, including software development of support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics.
- You will mentor and ramp new team members and take initiatives in building knowledge of new product lines within the MongoDB ecosystem.
Shift Information
For the first 3-6 months you will work in office Monday to Friday. Once ramped, you will transition to a permanent Wednesday - Sunday 9am-6pm work week with three in office days. Saturdays and Sundays are fully online workdays and not an on call shift. Due to the 24/7 nature of our support organization, some events will require volunteering for coverage outside normal work days or hours.
Qualifications
- Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting skills, including performance, memory, I/O, configuration, security, networking, clustering, and storage management.
- Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols such as DNS, TCP/IP, and SSL/TLS.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting complex mission critical production systems, including database backed or enterprise applications.
- Strong diagnostic ability, including analyzing issues holistically from the application tier through the database and down to storage and infrastructure.
- Broad awareness of workload patterns and customer requirements related to performance, availability, and scalability.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP in production environments.
- Experience operating, managing, or troubleshooting Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms.
- Familiarity with database administration concepts across RDBMS and/or NoSQL systems; MongoDB experience is preferred.
- Experience with backup, restore, disaster recovery, or related operational workflows.
- Basic scripting or coding ability and comfort reading code or automation used in production systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure, solve problems in real time, and collaborate effectively with others.
- Strong learning agility and willingness to ramp quickly on new technologies.
Bonus Points
- Experience with MongoDB products such as Atlas, Cloud Manager, Ops Manager, Compass, or Kubernetes Operator/Controller.
- Experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Experience with authentication systems such as LDAP, Kerberos, or Active Directory.
- Experience with monitoring, backup, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or New Relic.
- Experience managing large scale databases.
- Exposure to AI related technologies such as Vector Search.
- Experience coding in Python, Go, Java, Ruby, C/C++, or similar languages.
- Experience reproducing issues locally or working with personal test environments.
- Experience supporting weekend or non standard coverage models.
Success Measures
- Within 3 months: gain a deep understanding of MongoDB and its ecosystem and complete New Hire Training.
- Within 6 months: become comfortable working frontline with our customers and complete the MongoDB Certified DBA Associate exam.
- Within 12 months: become a technical specialist within MongoDB and aid peer engineers in advance diagnostics, and handle technical escalations independently.
