ABOUT THE ROLE - Technical Writer & Trainer
We are seeking a skilled and detail oriented Technical Writer & Trainer to support sanitation operations within our Penn Yan, NY facility. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating sanitation procedures, supporting sanitation activities, training sanitation staff, and ensuring adherence to food safety, GMPs, regulatory requirements, and company standards. The Technical Writer & Trainer plays a key role in supporting inspection readiness, documentation accuracy, and overall sanitation effectiveness.
WHAT YOU'LL DO• Coordinate sanitation activities to meet quality, food safety, regulatory, cost, and safety objectives
• Enforce GMPs, food safety rules, sanitation standards, and company policies
• Support readiness for state, federal, customer, and third party inspections
• Conduct sanitation validation through visual inspections, ATP testing, microbial testing, and allergen verification
• Verify correct chemical usage and concentration for all sanitation processes
• Ensure minimal downtime related to sanitation activities or pre operational inspections
• Complete, review, and maintain accurate sanitation documentation and records
• Create, update, and validate SSOPs for equipment and facility cleaning
• Support disassembly, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembly of processing equipment and related areas
• Communicate sanitation issues, risks, or concerns with leadership and assist in resolutions
• Properly use and train others on PPE related to chemical handling
• Monitor chemical inventory and relocate chemicals throughout the facility as needed
• Perform sanitation related special assignments as required
LEADERSHIP & TRAINING• Assign and prioritize daily sanitation tasks for the sanitation team
• Partner with sanitation leadership to align on goals, direction, and KPIs
• Train sanitation associates on SSOPs, documentation, sanitation procedures, and chemical handling safety
• Influence and guide cross functional teams to support sanitation and food safety programs
EQUIPMENT & TOOLS• Willingness to learn or train on forklift and scissor lift operation
WHAT YOU'LL NEED• Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Minimum 3 years of sanitation experience preferred, not required
• High school diploma required; Associate's degree in a related field preferred
• Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
• Ability to read P&IDs and blueprints preferred
• Strong computer skills
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Strong research skills for creating accurate technical documents
• High attention to detail and ability to enforce safety and hazard procedures
• Leadership, coaching, and training capabilities
• Mechanical and electronic aptitude
• Ability to collaborate with QA, maintenance, supervisors, and engineering
• Knowledge of HACCP principles preferred
• Ability to train on forklift and scissor lift operation if not already certified
THE SCHEDULE & SETTING• Option 1: Four 10 hour days (Sunday - Wednesday)
• Option 2: Five 8 hour days (Sunday - Thursday)
• Final schedule to be determined during interviews
• Work performed in sanitation, processing, and general production environments
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs
PAY & BENEFITSPay Range (Base Pay): $25.00 per hour
Other Compensation: May include overtime pay depending on schedule
