The Opportunity
We're supporting a globally recognised organisation seeking a highly technical Telemetry & Observability Engineer with strong experience in instrumentation, telemetry pipelines, and cloud-native observability platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, implementing, and optimising telemetry and monitoring solutions across complex distributed environments.
Please note: this is a high-bar role. We are specifically looking for engineers who can design and implement telemetry solutions, not candidates who are purely end users of monitoring tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement telemetry and observability solutions across distributed systems
- Build and optimise pipelines for metrics, logs, traces, and infrastructure telemetry
- Develop instrumentation and monitoring strategies using modern observability tooling
- Work closely with engineering and platform teams to improve reliability, visibility, and operational insight
- Configure and enhance monitoring, alerting, and visualisation capabilities
- Contribute to automation, CI/CD, and SRE practices across cloud-native environments
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering
- Strong Python development and automation skills
- Experience with telemetry protocols and instrumentation including:
- SNMP/SNMP MIBs
- NETCONF
- YANG telemetry
- Strong experience with:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- InfluxDB
- ClickHouse
- Experience designing and implementing observability solutions (not just consuming dashboards)
- Strong understanding of cloud-native and distributed systems environments
- Experience with CI/CD, Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation
Desirable
- OpenTelemetry experience
- Experience with telemetry collectors/exporters
- Experience in financial services, telecoms, or large-scale enterprise environments
Location: Primarily Remote (UK/Europe - preference for candidates near London)
Duration: Initial 6 months (strong likelihood of extension)
Start: ASAP
Rate: TBC (competitive, senior-level contract)
Why Apply?
- Opportunity to work on large-scale telemetry and observability initiatives
- Hands-on engineering environment with modern tooling
- High-impact role within a globally recognised organisation
- Strong extension potential
If you have deep experience in telemetry, instrumentation, and observability engineering and enjoy solving complex reliability and monitoring challenges, we'd like to hear from you.
