Job Overview The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on trailers and related equipment. This role ensures all repairs and fabrication work are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards to support safe and reliable equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities Diagnostic, Repair & Maintenance - Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot trailer issues
- Perform repairs and maintenance on brakes, suspension, axles, bearings, tires, lights, and wiring
- Replace and service wheel bearings, hubs, seals, and brake components
- Perform tire repairs and replacements
- Complete work orders and accurately document repairs performed
- Ensure all repairs meet DOT and safety standards
Welding & Fabrication - Perform MIG welding for structural trailer repairs and modifications
- Repair cracks, frames, gates, rails, and damaged components
- Fabricate and modify trailer parts as needed
- Steel welding required; aluminum welding experience highly preferred
- Read and interpret blueprints or fabrication drawings when applicable
Preventative Maintenance - Conduct routine preventative maintenance inspections
- Identify worn or damaged components and recommend repairs
- Follow maintenance schedules and safety guidelines
Quality, Safety & Shop Support - Follow all safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Ensure high-quality workmanship and attention to detail
- Safely operate forklifts and shop equipment (if certified)
- Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition
- Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
- Assist with additional shop duties as needed
Qualifications - Minimum 1 year of trailer repair experience preferred
- MIG welding experience required
- Steel fabrication experience required; aluminum welding a plus
- Working knowledge of trailer systems (brakes, suspension, axles, electrical)
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and fabrication drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Forklift experience a plus
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record preferred
Physical Requirements - Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy parts and materials
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
- Ability to safely operate welding equipment, power tools, and shop machinery
Work Environment - Indoor shop environment with exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels
- Regular exposure to grease, oil, welding fumes, and typical shop conditions
- Interaction with customers, parts personnel, and management
Pay Details: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour
